Another Fake News site

Interesting touch on this one: See the top left corner? Login & Sign up The illusion of the ability to participate is further enhanced by social media icons. While the authority of news is alluded to in the style of the ad- headings, writer's picture with byline etc.

Of course, the only working links lead to the sales site!

A Fake Church Site

Which key words fool you? I was doing a search for family fun and was drawn to this fake by the following search result :

Play fun family games

At first glance, I thought it's an odd set up for a church site. ..

image

When I clicked on the links, I discovered its true religion: Search Engines Are Us!  This site is a glorified search engine with links leading to sites that pay it for advertising. It has a really nice look compared to most.  The links that I checked are all family friendly and many are quite useful. If they had Canadian results, I might  book mark it for use. But come on! Masquerading as a church?! That's really in bad taste! I wonder if they are getting tax write-offs as a church as well? Hmmm...I could set  up a church site...After all I do have that  free certificate showing I am a minister. Nah! I think my conscience is too strong for me sometimes,

Daily News & More? Nah- It's an ad

 image

This fabulous fake  has some working links in the top right hand corner that appear to lead to real news, but only produce and splash page Mock headlines along the top in link colours, underlined are non functioning, but click a real link & return to the page and all links on the page as well as the "headlines" change to the visited link colour.

image

The only real link to news is contained in the accuweather widget on the page. (referred to in the html as a breadcrumb)

imageThe creator of this elaborate has included "ads" as well as "comments"

The piece d'rĂ©sistance lies in at the  bottom of this elaborate phony.

image

Here a very real disclaimer and realistic link categories mimic a real news site. Click any link at all and surprise ! Is this  really the recipe section? Click Here to see the HTML behind this link list)

When is a Blog not a Blog?

This advertising ploy tries to get readers to believe they are reading the personal experience of an individual. Very clever!

image

However,  closer examination, (with a right click of the mouse and choosing to "view page source code" ) we find that there are robots or widgets at work here. In addition, look what pops up when you try to close the page:

image

Just Click "O.K." and it will disappear.

This ad is programmed to  examine the ISP of the person opening the page. to determine their location then changes the wording of the "blog" accordingly. My copy of this page shows "Erin" lives in Toronto, and she received a check from the Canadian Government. What results do you get on this page? Drop me a comment & let the world know!
